Resin & Plastic Finishing Media

Resin (plastic) media is the gentle choice for mass finishing soft metals and thin-walled parts. Its lower density and controlled abrasiveness remove burrs and machining marks without damaging aluminium, brass, copper, zinc or delicate stamped components.

Resin media also excels at pre-plate finishing: it produces the fine, uniform scratch pattern that plating and anodising need for a bright, defect-free coating. Shapes include triangles, tetrahedrons, cones, wedges and stars in sizes from 3 mm upward.

Our resin media is extruded from selected thermoset resins with uniformly distributed abrasive grit, giving consistent cut rates and long service life. Send us your part material and required finish for a media recommendation and sample test.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is resin media used for in mass finishing?

Resin media is a plastic-bonded abrasive used for light deburring, smoothing and polishing of softer metals and delicate parts. It cuts far more gently than ceramic media, which makes it the right choice when the part must not be scratched, discoloured or dimensionally changed.

How does resin media compare with ceramic media?

Ceramic media is harder and cuts faster, so it is used for heavy burrs on steel and hard alloys. Resin media is softer, lighter and more forgiving, so it is used for aluminium, brass, zinc, plastics and thin parts where edge radiusing and a fine finish matter more than speed. Many processes use each in turn for a coarse cut followed by a fine polish.

Can resin media be used in a dry barrel finishing process?

Yes, resin media can run in both wet vibratory finishing and dry barrel finishing. In dry barrel processing it is often combined with organic media such as bamboo chips or walnut shell to polish delicate parts cleanly and produce a dry, bright surface without wastewater.
